Candidate-District 47, Florida House of Representatives

Cadidate 2010-William Burda(I) Independent
(I)=Independent of party politics

Why Entertain a Political Commitment?

I have always been one to preach, "Don't complain, do something about it."  In essence, I am doing something about it!  I do believe in transparency and truth.  I know in my personal and professional life, I require primary documentation in order to substantiate and satisfy my need for the facts.  I am not comfortable being told something that cannot be substantiated by existing documents.  "Take my word for it" does not appease me.  As we know, government officials promise things, but the actual delivery, of these promises, may not be forthcoming.  I believe the public deserves the truth!  I want the truth, don't you?

The Florida Sunshine Law is a great tool by which to retrieve document data generated through open government access.  I wish more people knew of this tool because open government access is what we need to hold our officials accountable and responsible for their decisions and actions they make.  Government should not be complicated, but should be effective.  I believe in effective government, don't you?

I am tired of candidates promising things and misrepresenting themselves as concerned individuals.  Yet, when they are voted in to office, their agenda surfaces!  It would be infantile to say candidates are void of agendas, but whatever happened to "for the people by the people"?  I am not a big fan of lobbyists, but I am not naive to understand their objectives.  So many government officials and representativies succumb to lobbyists and lose their ethics, morals, and public trust.  I don't want to be one of them!

Has anyone noticed that a considerable percentage of our representatives have no clue about business?  No degree in business, no employment in private business, no idea about accounting, finance, economics, sales, marketing, human relations, human resource management, need I go on?  In business, our decisions are based on capital returns, value-added benefits or services, cost containment, program enhancements, risk,  profits and losses, fiscal responsibility.   Some of our representatives have lost site of fiscal responsibility and their commitment to serve and protect.  I apply my MBA every day.  Government is a business, let's run it like one!

I am an Independent who is more of a Republican than Democrat.  I am not a true believer in party line politics; rather I believe each issue must be assessed on its merits, gains, losses, short term effect, long term effect, financial wellness.  It sickens me to watch party politics when there are limited gains to the public, yet are self serving for the few!  I am conservative in my beliefs which entail fiscal responsibility, fraud prosecution, entrepreneurship, earned rewards, appropriate taxation, social security and medicare overhaul, veteran appreciation, social programs based on accountability and school systems based on outcomes.  Change is good.  Let's not talk about it, let's do it!
